IMA-GATE™

The IMA-GATE™ Retractor has been developed to facilitate the harvesting of the left and right IMA over its full length through a minimized incision. Its unique design allows full exposure of the IMA bed and facilitates IMA harvesting by conventional technique. It therefore assures Surgeon’s comfort and uncompromised IMA utilization through a minimized incision.

Versatile Adaptation to Surgeon’s need
With the specially designed link between the rack and the lower bar the angle of lifting and retraction can be varied. Several angles for more vertical or more horizontal spreading can be selected. Additionally, the angle of retraction can further be varied by choosing the appropriate angle of the contralateral sternal stabilizer.
The link of the retraction hook allows self-adjustment of the hook, protecting the sternal bone from fracture.
The angle of the lower bar has been designed to bring the rack out and away from the surgical access, leaving all the space available for the Surgeon to work.

Assembly
The IMA-GATE™ Retractor has been designed for both, left and right IMA harvesting. Accordingly, after correct assembly the rack always comes to lie above and outside the caudal end of the sternotomy wound.
Assembly starts by connecting the horizontal bar with the rack at the link. Choose the 15° forward position to start with. Secure the link with the screw. Mount the lifting rod with the handle on the rack and screw it to its most inferior position.

IMA-GATE™ Use
After full sternotomy bring the IMA-GATE™ retractor into position with the stabilizer facing the surgeon. Insert the sternal half first into the stabilizer, then position the retraction hook with its teeths underneath the contralateral sternal half. Gently spread and lift the sternum by rotating the handle. Adjust the lifting and spreading effects by changing the angle of the rack link or the stabilizer, if needed.
Lift and tilt the table away from you to ease access and increase visibility to the IMA bed.
